Did you know that corporations have been suing to gain constitutional rights since the 1800s? Or that an oil company has used the First Amendment to oppose investigations into whether it misled investors and regulators about the dangers of climate change? Or that Tacoma was unable to put forward a ballot initiative to protect its water because it impinges on corporate rights established by the Supreme Court case Citizens United v FEC?
You can learn more as David Cobb tours Washington State to speak about the history of corporate personhood.
David is a lawyer, political activist, and founder of Move to Amend. David has sued corporate polluters, lobbied elected officials, and advocated for a constitutional amendment ensuring that only people have constitutional rights. In 2004, he ran for President of the United States on the Green Party ticket.
David will be touring with Cindy Black, campaign director for Initiative 735. The initiative will be on the ballot this year to make Washington the 18th state to tell Congress to overturn Citizens United and to pass a constitutional amendment ensuring that elections are fair and equitable.
